ShortFilmExperiment was born in 2005, wanted to offer to the city of Bolzano a full immersion into the world of visual research. It was necessary to find a location for the screening of these films which, if are screened in a normal cinema could not have had the necessary space and the time for the viewer to understand all the elements (visual, auditory, conceptual and abstract terms) which the producer/artist wanted to express and which are also essential to the understanding of the work.

In an environment without “uncomfortable” elements such as a comfortable chair, the darkness, the silence of the screening, the video finds it’s right space in which the viewer can analyse its potentialities and offers to the viewer its essence, completeness, its power and, at the same time, to emphasis its fragility.

During the screening in the cinema there are a few fixed positions (a film projector and widescreens LCD), a continuous screening of shorts, the best shorts which experiment the abstract quality of the imagine, it’s contents and technique.

Every film must be metabolised by our mind in a different way from person to person. The mission of ShortFilmExperiment: the viewer builds his own show piece by piece, without a prefixed programme and fixed times. The viewer also moves around during the screening in a different and personal way each time, with his own personal assimilation of the film’s message.
